Board of Trustees 2007 election result

At the 2007 SCR Annual Meeting held on Thursday, May 24th at the Westcott Community Center, we elected 3 board members to fill the 3 vacant Board of Trustees positions.

Elected were:

    Kendric Bedell
    Dana Bonn
    Danny Danhauser

Following are their candidate statements they submitted for the election:

Kendric Bedell

"I've been involved in rap and hip hop music since 1995, both as an artist and a promoter all over the United States and in Liberia, Africa. Recently, I've started promoting rap and hip hop music heavily in the Syracuse area, including through the Upper State Tour that I've helped organize at the Palace Theater and other places around town. I just want you to know that I'm dedicated in what I do. And if I'm selected as an SCR Board Trustee, I will do my best to get SCR the positive attention/promotion we need to be able to raise funds. SCR is for the community, so we need to get the community more involved in this project."

Dana Bonn

"I've been a life long music and radio fan and got involved with this project when it first started out as the Westcott Nation Music Association in 1990. Over the years, I've served as Vice-President and President and promoted several music fundraisers for SCR. Most recently, I've helped put together two CD compilations of my radio show "This is Rock 'n' Roll Radio with Dana and Carl" (and a third in the pipeline), with all the money going to SCR. I still feel we can achieve our goals, even when dealing with the slow snail pace of the FCC process. I feel we are even closer now than ever and within 3 to 5 years we can have a signal in the city of Syracuse. No matter what happens with SCR, I myself will still try to bring community radio to Syracuse in some way, shape or form."

Danny Danhauser

"Since 1996 I've been heavily involved in promoting various forms of Jamaican music around Syracuse, which has led me deeper into the local music community as well. I've discovered an immense treasure trove of great local artists in our community and amazing touring acts passing through that would astound most people in Syracuse, if only they knew about them. Since 1998, I've been involved in various capacities with SCR and I filed with the FCC our two FM translator applications still pending. I intend to take the worthwhile accomplishments achieved this past year and build on them. We are much closer to the goal of an FCC-licensed FM signal in the City of Syracuse than most people realize and I'm not going to quit until we've exhausted every reasonable alternative to make that happen. I just think we owe that much to the great artists and others in our community lacking a voice."

Updated changes to SCR's operations

In January 2007, the SCR board and members after a special meeting were able to work out an agreement where the Westcott Community Center took over the former SCR webcast and re-named it Westcott Radio. The WCC now owns and operates the webcast and all former SCR programmers are now doing their shows on the Westcott Radio webcast, from the same studio as before.

The newest SCR Board of Trustees that were elected on March 24th 2007 has decided for now that this arrangement will continue into the foreseeable future. The current board wants to concentrate organizational energy on signal expansion primarily. Once SCR gains a viable FM signal that serves a significant population base in the Syracuse area, the board feels it would make sense for SCR to webcast again, but probably not before such time. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to support Westcott Radio in its effort to use webcasting as a community organizing tool.

Thanks for your interest in community radio in Syracuse!
